After attending college, Colonel Jimmie Green entered the United States Navy Flight Training Program as an Aviation Cadet, and began flight training during January 1954. Upon completion of the Flight Training Program, he received his pilot wings and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USMC. During his thirty (30) year career in the USMC, he served in many capacities — various staff billets at the Squadron, Air Group and Wing levels, Squadron Commander twice, Air Group Commander, Officer In Charge of The Joint Matters Branch Operation Division Headquarters USMC. He is also a graduate of the USMC Command and Staff College. He has flown and combat qualified in numerous types of aircraft - fighter, attack and reconnaissance. During his tour of duty as an A-4 combat pilot in an attack squadron in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and eighteen (18) Air Medals. Colonel Green is married to Jean Chadwick Green of Beaufort, North Carolina, and they have three (3) children.
